Windows Issues
Windows cannot complete the extraction. The destination file could not be created
This error occurs when a file has not been properly extracted. Use 7-Zip to extract by right clicking the archive and selecting Extract Here. Do not use the built in Windows extractor.
Error 0x80004005 when copying files
This error occurs when a file has not been properly extracted. Follow the 7-Zip extraction guide and ensure you are extracting all layers of nested archives.
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)
From version 24.1 onward After Effects requires a processor that supports AVX2. If your CPU does not support AVX2 you will need to install After Effects 2023 or an older release.
The system cannot find the path specified
Move the folder to your desktop and try again. If that does not resolve the issue remove any forward slash characters from the folder name.
Error Code 24 (Adobe)
Extract the ISO file itself using 7-Zip by right clicking and selecting Extract Here. Temporarily disable your internet connection then open the extracted folder and run Setup.exe again.
MSVCP110.dll was not found
Your system is missing required Visual C++ components. Install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2012 from the official Microsoft download page then restart your computer.
DaVinci Resolve Studio is not starting on Windows
Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX and rename the Plugins folder to Plugins.origin. This prevents OFX plugin conflicts at startup.
Error Code 127 (Adobe)
Error 127 means the installer cannot extract files to the adobeTemp folder. Navigate to the adobeTemp folder on your root drive and verify that System and Administrators have Full Control permissions. Temporarily disable your antivirus or add the folder to its exclusion list.
Patching Error: Pattern in Resolve.exe matched 0 times
This error occurs when you run the Studio patcher on the free version of DaVinci Resolve. Uninstall the free version and install DaVinci Resolve Studio then run the patcher again.
Windows Defender is blocking an application
You can either add the file or folder to Windows Defender exclusions by going to Settings then Privacy and Security then Virus and Threat Protection and adding an exclusion. Alternatively when a blocked file appears under Current Threats click it and select Allow on Device.
Unable to launch games after Adobe installation
If games that worked before stop launching after an Adobe installation delete the registry key located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\DevOverrideEnable and reboot. If you use GenP there is a toggle inside the app.
DeleteFile failed code 5 Access is denied (Red Giant Service.exe)
Open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc and search for Red Giant Service and MxNotify. Right click each and select End Task then try again.
macOS Issues
After Effects cannot continue: unexpected failure during application startup
After Effects 2021 and below are not compatible with macOS 14 or higher. Install After Effects 2022 or a newer version. If this occurs on 2022 or later refer to the Adobe community thread for Sonoma specific fixes.
Plugins are installed but not compatible with this version
This occurs when an Intel only plugin is installed on After Effects running natively on Apple Silicon. Only a small number of plugins have this limitation. Check the plugin notes on the download page and use Rosetta if needed.
Is damaged and cannot be opened. You should eject the disk image.
Drag the installer to your desktop. Open Terminal and type sudo xattr -cr followed by a space then drag the file into Terminal and press Enter. Enter your Mac password when prompted. Passwords do not display while typing in Terminal.
The installation cannot continue as the installer file may be damaged
Right click the installer and select Show Package Contents then navigate to Contents then MacOS and run Install directly from there.
You do not have XCode Command Line Tools
If you are on Sonoma the Monterey 23.6 patch is unsupported. Download and run the alternative Sonoma patcher which includes its own instructions.
Error: couldn't find main entry point
This means a plugin is missing a required file or was not installed correctly. Reinstall the plugin from scratch following the written instructions. If this occurs with Twixtor 8 use the RE:Vision 2303 Bundle instead.
Failed with error code 133 (Adobe)
Error 133 means there is insufficient disk space to download and install the application. Free up space on your drive or select a different installation location.
Cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer
For DMG or PKG files Right click the file hold Control and click then select Open. A warning will appear but this time it includes an Open Anyway button. For plugins go to System Settings then Security and Privacy and click Allow Anyway next to the blocked item.
Unable to expand archive. Error 79
This error occurs when a file has not been properly extracted. Use Keka to extract archives on Mac. Follow the extraction guide at the top of the Mac downloads page.
There was a problem installing CCXProcess
Open Terminal and run: sudo softwareupdate --install-rosetta --agree-to-license. Once Rosetta is installed run the Adobe installer again.
The Patch.command file could not be executed due to insufficient access privileges
Open Terminal and type chmod +x followed by a space then drag the Patch.command file into the Terminal window and press Enter.
When I type my password in Terminal nothing happens
This is expected behavior. macOS does not display passwords or any characters while typing in Terminal for security reasons. Type your password and press Enter even though nothing appears.
I cannot find my Library folder in Finder
The Library folder is hidden by default on macOS. In Finder hold down the Option key and click the Go menu in the menu bar. Library will appear in the list.
